2007

The day a lot of people have been waiting for has finally arrived, the 2007 summer Mac product press conference, and the thing that’s in most of our minds is… what does the new iMac look like?

The iMac
Honestly, I was a bit disappointed seeing the first photos of the product because aside from the use of glass and aluminum (plus the obvious reduction in thickness), the iMac’s design has remained the same. Internal stuff sounds really good, especially about the part on 4GB maximum memory and the 1TB hdd. As with any other computer, memory and storage is really important.

The rumor mills scored another hit with Apple’s decision on removing the 17″ from its new line of iMacs. It is good news though that the 20″ will still be affordable for educational buyers with its low-end 2.0 GHz version.

iLife ‘08
I am not much into the rest of the iLife sotfware, but hearing about the iWeb’s ability to make use of personal domains is how it should have been in the first place. Nonetheless, its good to finally have it available.

Low-profile keyboard
It’s also nice to know that the new keyboard that has been circulating around the web turned out to be true. Hopefully the new mouse will be good as well. Its just too bad that Apple still opted for the AAA battery-powered wireless keyboards and not make use of rechargeable lithium ion batteries that can be charged by using either a usb or firewire cable… and I was really looking forward to that.

Mac Mini
A miss for rumor sites is the discontinuation of the Mac Mini product line. With the current refresh of Core 2 Duos, it seems like this little mac has a bit more to go. It would be good though if they would change how it looked altogether, or better yet, add the functionalities of the Apple TV with it or vice versa.

The Apple Store
After reading about Steve jobs sayung that the new iMac is already available, I immediately logged to the Apple Store but it seems they are still updating it. And as of this writing I have been loading and reloading the site but I still get the same result. Update: the Apple Store is finally accessible with the new product line.

My experience on this event is based on the liveblog over at Engadget.
