Labour day long weekend

It has been a very long time, since I have been able to enjoy more than a day of on a weekend, and this year’s labour day weekend finally gave me the break I have been longing for. Although I did come to work Sunday morning, its still great to unwind and not worry about coming to work for a change.

Tim’s stomach flu

Saturday was a whole different story though. Kitchie and I didn’t get any sleep since Friday because we had to take little Tim to the Women’s and Children’s hospital. He had been vomiting so much that there was no other option. Turns out Tim contracted gastroenteritis from someone he had contact with recently.

Since it was the first time Tim had to be taken to the hospital immediately, we were very worried, not knowing what to do. We were a bit relieved when the doctor told us that it was a season for stomach flu, and Tim was not the first one admitted for the sickness. Before then, we didn’t know that one of the symptoms was vomiting and we thought it was something more severe.

The little padawan is doing a little better now, not so much vomiting than the occasional diarrhoea and a bit of a fever. Re-hydration is still underway, with Tim taking Hydralite every our. We see a lot of improvement now, Tim is back to being active, so there is no need to worry for the folks back home.

Boredom

Since we weren’t really able to go out Saturday and Sunday, we were kinda hoping to get a little bit of fresh air and a little bit of shopping today. But as expected, most shops (and all that we needed to go to) were closed for the holiday. So we just went for a bit of a drive and then back home.

Kitchie went to do some gardening while Tim and I was watching Shrek… with the intention of getting Tim to sleep so that I can do some work as well. In the long run, it was I who fell asleep while Tim was up and about, not leaving his mom’s side at all times, even if he should have.

Better communication

In the Philippines, when you talk about instant messaging, for most, its just Yahoo! Messenger. And not that I find that bad, but as a lot of people probably know by now, it is really difficult to try and convert people to something better. Maybe its just familiarity or the fear of the unknown. But what I know is, at a certain point, we must be willing to try new things in order for us to improve ourselves.

Some family members have finally seen the light and are trying out Skype as an alternative ways of Internet communication. The best part of this nifty program is that for all the systems it is available on, al (or at least the most important) features are available to use. And the fact that when talking over Skype sounds like you’re just talking to someone across the street on a regular telephone is a real deal maker.

I am still trying out a service that enables calling normal home phones. But until I do get the feel of it, I won’t let anyone in on it yet… let’s just say I do not want to have to do tech support on it ;)
