The next step

This past weekend, I finally made the decision to go with the iPod Touch and not worry about who gets to dangle the iPhone here in Australia. Paying our local NextByte a visit, I spent about 10 minutes playing with the two iPod Touch demos they had. I was a bit disappointed though that they still didn’t have any stock. Instead, one of their employees told me that at the moment, people wanting to get Apple’s latest gadget will have to preorder.
I have been a happy owner of a old school iPod. But the lack in features and storage makes me feel long overdue for an upgrade. I understand that the current iPod Touch can only bring up to 16GB to the table. Still, with the features it offers and the extra 1GB of flash-based storage is a hell of a lot of difference compared to a 15GB monochrome hdd-based veteran.
A concern for me though is the availability of larger capacity SSD products. I mean if Alienware is starting to incorporate these in their notebook and desktop computers, how far is old Steve Jobs from doing the same in their most popular products?
Is there actually a possibility of seeing another iPhone issue but applied to early iPod Touch adopters? I hope not. I won’t be getting my unit until next week, and I would certainly hate it if things change drastically right after I do. Sigh… that’s technology for you.
