Blackout

After a few hours of hearing the news about Adelaide becoming a solar city, we were greeted with an ironic surprise in the form of a power outage that lasted about 45 minutes and stretched for several blocks. This event made me realize that no matter where you are, the inevitability of issues with electricity and power will always be just around the corner.
Its fortunate that about a month back, we decided to purchase some really good LED flashlights from Energizer. It was mainly preparation for the winter season where nights get darker sooner, and walking home from work during those times will be a little bit difficult without it. Never did we realize that something like this would happen in a month’s time.
Little Timothy enjoyed it the most, being able to wear the headlamp and playing with the flashlights was a joy for him. It was actually the first time we ever experienced a power outage during the night, and just right there, I missed the Philippines.
Power outages in the Philippines are not rare occasions, and it gives the people the chance to go out and mingle with friends and neighbors, no matter what time it is. But what I really miss is when the power comes back on. Even if you were blindfolded and inside a box, you would know straight away that everything is back to normal, once you hear the chants and cheers of your neighbors. We did what we could by the way, doing hi-fives and other cheers… but it just feels different with everyone else involved.
