Its not a secret that ever since I was introduced to the iPod, I’ve loved it ever since. And the latest incarnation known to the world as the iPod touch just made this gadget love affair even greater.
This dependency on the iPod was tested earlier today, as I was using it to surf the net, all of a sudden the screen froze. Gasp! It is not often that I see an Apple product just instantaneously freeze up. I tried resetting it, and tried a second time for good measure, but both attempts had the same outcome… the Apple logo on a black background. Nothing happened after that.
Getting home, I immediately put it on a firewire dock to see if the unit receiving power will free the iPod from its frozen state. Nothing. I tried it again, this time while iTunes was open, and using a usb dock… same result.
I thought to myself, with the release of the iPhone 3G, and now this unfortunate event, is it a sign? Then I thought about how much it cost me just to get the iPod touch. Fair enough that it still is a gadget, and stuff breaks down. But this thing is fairly new and with the premium I paid for it, I expect it to function as its supposed to, and not freeze up after a few months.
As a last ditch effort, I pressed and held just the home button, and voila! Everything was back to normal. In fact, it was as if nothing happened. The WiFi was still on, and it connected to my home network as usual.
The moral of this story? Always have a second iPod for emergencies… just kidding. I should say that I shouldn’t be too attached to any tangible thing… just in case it gets broken, stolen or whatever. But for people who are used to life with their music with them, it is just not possible. If its any consolation, loving music isn’t really hazardous to your health… unless of course your earphones / headphones are always blaring.
