The not-so-new media

Back in the Philippines, way before we left for Australia, I was hardly watching any television. There may be an instance or two where I would watch my favorite tech (and WWE) shows, but that was about it. And even so, they were only available on cable. I really didn’t like local programming anyway… too much nonsense… it makes me feel like I’m losing some brain cells one way or another.
Getting here wasn’t really that much different. I mean, I did get to watch for like the first few months or so, but then I slowly grew out of it as well. We currently do not have cable service at home so I spend most of the time on the web.
Some of you might say that I spend most of my time on the internet even before. You’re right. But the availability of broadband, and having more and more content available for download or streaming on the web, it was only a matter of time until I find some that suits my taste.
My fascination for podcasts led to my discovery of Internet Television, starting from MacBreak, then there was Webb Alert, and more recently Revision 3 programming namely Tekzilla, Diggnation and PixelPerfect.
Revision 3 has a lot more programming than I have the time for, and I’m sure there’s a plethora of other great sources too. But until I get more bandwidth and time, I guess I will only have the time for what I am currently subscribed to.
If you’re yearning to get away from the stale content being pushed by the tv and cable companies, especially if you have a good broadband connection, then aside from YouTube, consider some of these alternative sources for programming. I’m sure you won’t regret it.
