Fun and games

One day last week, Kitchie, Timothy and I went to the library to return some things we borrowed, and to take out some things and do some errands as well. And while Timothy and I were waiting for Kitchie, I decided to take our little padawan to one of the computers with games for children installed on it for him to play.
The moment I told him what was about to happen, he was all smiles, and couldn’t believe his ears… me letting him play on the computer. Well, first and foremost, it was there for kids his age and there wasn’t anything he can do to really damage the thing. But for me, seeing his facial expression as he was listening to what I said, and then his excitement during the time he was playing made me realize that our son was really growing fast. Not only is he eager to go to school (or day care at least), but he is yearning for more ways to learn, play and interact.
It was then that Kitchie and I decided that it was high time for us to invest more on learning toys and games for his age and a little bit older ones… he has been developing really quick, and if he could understand those for kids older than he is, then we would not want to hinder that.
Anyway, it was great timing… having a couple of retailers (and another one coming up) having their big toy sales at this time. We were able to see which was most suitable for Timothy, and purchased a couple of them. One was for his concentration and motor skills (Buck-a-roo – pictured), that he has learned and loves to play with Kitchie and myself.
The other, V.Smile, intended for his development for years to come. We also got him the Disney/Pixar Cars SmartCartridge to get him even more interested to learning. The latter we have tried and tested, and he seems to like it very much. But this will be hidden in the closet, for this will be his present for the coming Christmas season.
To avoid Timothy being in front of the tv all day, we have decided to make up a schedule where he would only be allowed a couple of hours per day for him to decide whether it be for watching tv, dvds or playing on the V.Smile (after Christmas). That way, he will learn how to manage time at an early age, and more importantly, still be able to appreciate the outdoors and playing physically despite the number of technologies found inside the house.
