Phone frenzy

Its a very exciting time indeed for mobile aficionados. There is the impending release of the iPhone 3G on July 11th, but more importantly, there are a number of alternatives that are probably going to give Apple a run for its money.
The news about the iPhone 3G’s lower price was what caught my (and most other people’s) attention. You basically got your iPod, a mobile phone and even a GPS all in one sleek and sexy gadget. For people used to the iPod touch, the new phone would probably just be second nature.
BUT, there are several catches… from the absurd voice and data plans from various mobile providers, to the actual phone itself… 2 Megapixel camera? There are already a number of brands that offer 5 Megapixels. Why, Sony even recently announced an 8 Megapixel camera phone.
Regardless of how the actual phone will perform, I am quite certain that it will do quite well in the mobile phone market. Despite it’s price, it all falls down on how easy it is to use and integrate with our existing lives.
That being said, I do however have a couple of alternatives that I am seriously considering…
Blackberry 9000 (Bold)

Research in Motion’s Blackberry has been a major player in the smart phone industry, and even with the previous iPhone’s existence, has maintained a huge chunk of the market share. And although they have already been in operation for a while, it wasn’t until their Blackberry Curve model that they caught my attention.
With the coming Blackberry 9000, I join the anticipation of everyone looking for the perfect smart phone. Only time will tell if lives up to most expectations.
The Bold comes with a new and improved UI, which will be a welcome feature to those in the quest to avoid all things Microsoft. This however doesn’t come without a flaw. Looking into its feature set, it is a pity that like the iPhone, this beauty only comes with a 2 megapixel camera. I guess most users don’t really need anything higher. But I personally wouldn’t mind having the extra power just in case I need it.
HTC Touch Pro

HTC ‘s Touch Diamond caught my eye when it made its photo debut on the internets. Sleek and innovative, I really loved how the interface looks… I am a huge fan of black and shades for gray if you haven’t yet noticed.
Then came the Touch Pro, with everything the diamond had and then some, more importantly, it comes with a full keyboard for those uneasy with touch interfaces.
For my initial concerns with the previous 2 phones, the Touch Pro is a little better with 3.2 megapixels in the camera department.
Unfortunately, both the Touch Diamond and Touch Pro are powered by Windows Mobile. And with my previous hardships with Windows, I just have to say no. Too bad. If this thing came with its own (decent) OS or maybe Google’s Android, I would probably consider this versus the previously mentioned mobile phones.
