Trolls

Everyone who has ever managed a community site or just a plain old blog like this one would have dealt with people like these. I have been using the net for quite some time now, and I can say that I’ve had my fair share of them.
What is this I speak of? Internet trolls. These aren’t your garden variety, Lord of the Rings type troll. Nor is this about the little toys with different weird-shaped colorful hairstyles that freaked us out when we were kids. These are basically people who either have nothing better to do, or are just trying as much as they can to be part of any community no matter what it takes.
Like most people, I resort to just ignoring them. And although it would be hard for sites that offer open commenting to change, have it pass through some sort of moderation. This unfortunately is not viable for really huge sites.
It’s sad to think that people do a lot of hard work in trying to make a place where other people can go about and enjoy reading articles and posting comments, only to be disrupted by these certain individuals. We can only hope that they lose interest and move on. Even so, no one particular person should be reason to quell a wonderful community site with nothing but good intentions. After all, the show must go on.
