The migration

Like a flock of birds migrating to the south for winter, more and more people are moving to Facebook for their social networking needs.
I can remember back when I didn’t know better. Having to put up with the bad usability and performance of Friendster… and not to mention the growing number of profiles that display colors and other customizations that just render the pages totally useless, or an eyesore to say the least.
Then word came out that Facebook was finally open to the public. That for me, was one of the greatest days for social networking.
Now, there are a number of sites that offer some sort of variation of the same formula. Finding long lost friends, making new ones, and everything in-between. And this phenomenon has just grown even further with the advent of the Facebook app [iTunes link] for the iPhone and iPod Touch and a whole heap of other services that interconnect the various systems available.
Friendster is still around, and has gotten a bit better, at least in terms of its availability. But nonetheless, everyone (including myself) who just got tired of putting up with poor service will most probably not come back. And although I still have my own profile in their network, its now merely a way for me to contact friends who refuse to change. After all, you stay where your friends are right?
Lately, I have been receiving a number of friend requests, and it is nice to know that the people are finally inching their way towards something better. And unless a miracle happens, it looks like the trend will go on.
