I must admit that I am guilty of taking Philippine cuisine for granted. Back home, I used to always eat foreign cuisine… Japanese, Italian and whatnot. Its only when I feel like it (or enticed to) do I actually go and grab some of our own stuff. I know its not something to brag about, but there’s nothing I can do.
So imagine my surprise when I realized more and more as each day passes, that I have grown tired of basically everything else, and my tongue and stomach are longing for Filipino food.
Kitchie has learned to become wonderful in the kitchen, but both she and I agree that it is not the same. Both the ingredients and other things she adds to our food just isn’t the same. Despite being cooked here at home, it still doesn’t have that X-factor that was present when we had some back in the Philippines.
Don’t get me wrong, the food here in Australia is great. Excellent quality and our exposure to new things have been more than welcome. But you can’t blame us for missing the flavours that we have long been accustomed to. Sigh, I guess this is just one of the many things Filipinos have to endure leaving their home country.
