Hammer and door

Poor little Timothy had to endure about 5 minutes as he waited for me to successfully unhinge the bathroom door. I was at a panic, for as each second that passed, he was crying more and more. It seems that he really got himself stuck, and as he tries pulling his fingers free, he only managed to make things worse.

Jumping back a few minutes before it happened, everyone was busy doing their own thing, and Tim came up to me asking where Kitchie was. “In the bathroom” I replied. So of course he would go see her straight away. But only seconds after our conversation, he called out to me in a panic state, and I saw that for some reason we still cannot understand, he managed to get all his fingers except for his thumb on his right hand stuck on the side of the door where the hinges where.

Growing up as an active little boy, I myself am no stranger to these kinds of things, so I understand how he felt. His cries grew louder and louder as I ran across the hall and in the kitchen where I kept my toolbox. I knew I had to get the door off its hinges, but I just wasn’t sure if I could do it quick enough. It got to a point where Kitchie started calling 000. And although things started to look good, I can’t just tell her to hang up… disconnected calls to emergency numbers can actually prompt them to go to the site even more.

For some reason, the hinges were quite difficult to undo, and it was hard to hit it harder with our hammer for each blow gives out vibrations that hurt our little boy. Overall, it took about 7-8 minutes to get the job done. Timothy let out a cheer as soon as it was over, but it quickly turned into fear as he thought I had to destroy our bathroom door just to free him. He kept saying sorry and crying from the pain at the same time.

We went to the hospital to make sure everything was alright, and thankfully it was. It took a while but it seems like the pain and swelling has subsided. There is nothing to be concerned about.

This event made me realize how kind our son is. As everything was going on, the first thing on his mind was the door. Of course we assured him that all was well. I even told him that if I actually had to damage the door I wouldn’t think twice.
