Neverwinter Nights

In a world filled with the next generation consoles and processor-hungry PC games, I always wonder if there is still room for old school gaming. The release of Command & Conquer Gold as freeware, development of retro gaming machines and the existence of websites that cater to DOS (yes, DOS) games such as DOS Games, Home of the Underdogs and the DOS Games Archive only say one thing… the games of old will be around as long as there are gamers to play them.

I have installed and played C&C Gold over the weekend and it brought back memories. U must admit that having been played the more recent versions of this series have in fact spoiled me in expecting certain features to be present (such as build and training cues), but I was surprised to find that the music was still somewhat interesting.

Back on an adventure

On a slightly different note, upon viewing the awe-inspired Diablo 3 trailers, I was inclined to do a little bit of silicon adventuring myself, so I went and reinstalled Neverwinter Nights which coincidentally had its final update released just recently.

Much to my chagrin, I have yet to complete the game despite its original release dating all the way back to 2002. I know friends who have played the game would be surprised. But family, work, a series of events and my short attention span combined has led me to abandon this fantasy world.

Unfortunately, my previous lack of interest for the game made me loose most of my previously made characters. Although there are some trainers out there, I would still like to finish the whole game without the aid of third part applications, even if it means being on it hours on end… or at least as much as I can afford to spend.

For now, I am a lowly level 5 textbook fighter, but this will not be for long. One of the best things of having gone through the game several times is knowing exactly what to do for each quest, giving me to basically breeze through them. Hopefully once I’m done, I can go do some quest with friends online.
