Playstation 3

There was a lot of hype here in Australia over one of Sony’s promotions… where if you buy a qualifying Bravia television, you get a 40GB Playstation 3 via redemption for free. And I must say, if you were in the market for a brand-spanking new LCD television, then that would be a more compelling reason to buy.

If you however are an avid gamer and gadget lover, previous rumours about the impending release of an 80GB and 160GB version of the console might make you think otherwise. I myself have kept from even thinking about it until the DualShock 3 controller is included with the bundle, not to mention the availability of good games is still something to think twice about.

I am aware of the fact that you can basically buy any version of the PS3 and swap the drive with your run-of-the-mill notebook hard drives. But for me, there’s just something about having a larger capacity straight off the box. The knowledge of future expandability is an added bonus.

Rumours have finally been laid to rest as the 80GB have started to ship and will be available to the general public in a couple of days. Best of all, Sony finally ditched the previously bundled Sixxaxis in favor of the DualShock 3.

Unfortunately, it looks like Australia will be left out in terms of the 160GB PS3, just as with the Metal Gear Solid Edition. Nonetheless, as months pass, bigger and better games are starting to come out of the proverbial woodwork.
