Father and son

It was over a week ago that I thought about going back to the adventure RPG that is Neverwinter Nights. There was just too many things to do… that eventually lead me to cast it aside once more. This past Saturday however, I was able to sit down for a couple of hours and try to tackle as many jobs in the game that I could handle.

That was when I discovered that our little Padawan has been watching his old man, and having fun along the way. I had him sit down beside me and of course explained to him that everything he saw was just make believe. Nonetheless his questions ensued… from what the name of my character was to the kind of monsters and how many I was facing.

I thought he was just plainly curious and would leave my side after a few minutes. It was clearly evident that he was genuinely fascinated with the game when, come dinner time, he was asking me to play just a little more so he could watch. That was when the father in me took over, and we went straight to the table to eat with Kitchie. Except for this instance, we never let him watch or play anything unsuitable for anyone his age.

The headbangers

I was earlier listening to some old Metallica tunes, anticipating the release of Death Magnetic. Timothy comes in the room, jumping around as if he was in a virtual mosh pit, and bobbing his head up and down. When I came to stop the music, he asked why I turned it off, and if I could put it back on. My son is a headbanger…

Over the years, I have grown to appreciate other music genres, but I end up coming back to Heavy Metal each and every time. I do like most of the other songs out there, which goes the same for little Tim. I wonder if he too has a dislike for country music.

The garden squad

We also spent the day gardening… mowing the lawn and pulling out weeds. As much as we ask him not to, Tim still ends up helping us in his own way. We are a little bit worried about him getting scratches or worse, but he is persistent just like his dad. So we just try to make things a little bit safer for him. Besides, it doesn’t really take long until he asks if he can go inside… either because he is tired or just want to play with his toys.

The difference

In as much as I like the similarities between Tim, Kitchie and myself, we also discovered something totally different. As a child, I just loved eating leche flan made by my mom. Kitchie was able to make some for dessert, but for some reason, he wouldn’t even taste them.
