The drive-in experience

Today was a milestone for my family and I, as we watched our first movie since coming to Australia… and our very first drive-in movie ever!
Together with friends, we set out to watch “Bedtime Stories” starring Adam Sandler and “The Day the Earth Stood Still” with Keanu Reeves.
For those wondering why we have never seen a movie before today, our little Timothy isn’t really ready to be cooped up in a cinema longer than 7 minutes, let alone watch a full-length movie.
Today was slightly different though, since he could technically make as much noise as he wants as long as he was inside the car. To be fair with the little boy, he actually behaved quite well. Even enjoying Bedtime Stories, especially Bugsy, the hamster.
The second movie, we really didn’t enjoy as much, not because it wasn’t any good (I actually thought it was arlight), but because as evidenced by the above photo, it turned out that I left the key on the ignition a notch more than I was supposed to, and totally drained my car’s batteries.
Kitchie and I were not afraid of not being able to go home… the Mañegos were with us, and they have always taken care of us, especially in times of need. But we were more weary of how much trouble we caused them… maybe even to the point of them not enjoying the rest of the movie. I really felt bad and apologize to anyone whom I may have inconvenienced.
Fortunately for us, there was no need for jumper cables and another vehicle. The man running the cinema had with him a nifty gadget that will jump start your car without the need for anything else. He just connected the two cables, turned it on and voila! As soon as I started the engine, it was as if nothing had happened.
Getting home, it only took me about an extra 15 minutes to give the batteries a bit more juice before I went inside the house. Sigh, today was certainly quite the adventure for the entire family.
Despite the slight downside, the overall experience was great. I will not even think twice about going back to watch another movie, be it with friends, visiting family or just the three of us. This experience will enable us to be well-prepared the next time we go.
Our thanks once more goes out to the Mañego family for all their patience and know-how in situations such as these.
