Will Steve bow out?

Rumors of Apple CEO Steve Jobs health, and even a premature release of his obituary by Bloomberg has prompted shareholders and Apple fans to rethink about the future of the company they hold so dear.
2008′s Macworld showed a rather unsightly looking Steve, with which he has claimed that a “hormone imbalance” is the reason for his health issues. That coupled with his being a vegan has led to him being skinnier and skinnier. Fears due to his previous battle with pancreatic cancer started to re-circulate.
The 2009 Macworld was the last with Apple in attendance. Much to the chagrin of the Apple enthusiasts, there was no Steve to deliver the final keynote at San Francisco.
Instead, the Keynote was led by Phil Schiller, who did a pretty good job given the fact that he was trying to fill the shoes of Apple’s biggest rock star.
Now it seems that Steve Jobs is taking a leave of absence due to the same health reasons… something that he thought was not as complicated as it was.
It is amazing to think how the Apple culture creates as much buzz as it does on their beloved products. Something that seems to have reached the realm of the living, and to that of Steve Jobs and his current condition.
Despite my not being a shareholder, I do understand those who are in that situation. Stock prices might fall due to preconceived notions that the company may slowly lose its streak if they lose their CEO. I can even put my self in the shoes of people worried about the state of the company and the future of its products.
I would like to believe however, that most if not all of Apple’s products speak for themselves, and will continue to gain ground in the market as long as they remain competitive as well as innovative, just as how they are right now.
Steve Jobs is great… an innovator and wonderful at press conferences, especially with keynotes. He has saved the company from a very dire situation way back. But this doesn’t mean that the company itself will not be able to cope if indeed he does not return to his position.
Private or not, his health issues, be it improving or otherwise, shouldn’t really be that much of an issue. I am certain that they have been aware of these developments, and are thinking of ways on how to move on, with Steve on the realm or even someone else.
Realistically speaking, its not the end of the world if Steve does not make a comeback. Nonetheless, I do wish him the best and that he makes a full recovery.
