Monochrome is coming

I always thought that the design of a certain website no matter how good it is, must undergo even just a little bit of change every year, just to keep things fresh and interesting. For The Telecommuter, I thought it best to have a design revamp every year.
Well, that time has passed, and I have yet to actually do any changes, despite the fact that I have been wanting to do so. The lack of actual creative time has hindered me in even sitting down to create a mockup or something close to that.
What finally drove me to do something about it was the fact that I would really like to get back to developing sites. And I won’t be able to entice clients if even my own site looks like something from last year or God forbid, even later.
Blog elements
So what will I base the new design on? I thought about the things I really wanted to share with the public, and I came up with a few things. I have been blogging although infrequently for over 5 years now, which was something of an achievement in itself. So that gives me content.
Another thing was pictures. The main purpose of the blog aside from sharing my thoughts was to show family and friends what has been happening to our family by way of photos.
The things I love doing is the last one on the list. From gaming to the more recent audiobook listening. I find that once people get to know more about what you like, they tend to be a bit more closer, especially if you do share similar interests.
Colors
As proven by my previous blog designs, I have never really been a fan of exaggerated designs or colors. I find that if anyone was to come read my blog, it would be for the content and nothing else.
Of course I wouldn’t like to use colors painful to the eyes either. My previous “Shades” theme proved to be very difficult to view on old monitors or with those with the gamma settings at low levels.
Inspired by one of my recent B&W photos, I decided to make things a couple of shades lighter as well as only use web-friendly colors. That way, no matter how old your monitor is, this blog should still render on your screen the way its supposed to.
Less clutter
As with most people starting out with websites, I have been guilty of cluttering up with all sorts of content, quite a few does not necessarily have to do with me.
I decided to get rid of my long list of a blogroll. I am still debating against just creating a separate page for it or just getting rid of it entirely. Why you ask? Well, most of the people on my list haven’t really been active in the blog scene, and they don’t link back to me anyway so… what’s the use right?
I try to have the design as simple as possible and at the same time just have a bit of class in it. I do not know if I actually am successful in both these goals, but hopefully everything turns out fine.
Development has pretty much finished the design stage, and in a few days, coding will commence. Unfortunately, other than the image posted above, I cannot display any more until the new design is up and running. So sorry for the tease, and please bear with me.
