New Year 2010

Another year has passed. It has now been over 3 years since we touched our feet on Australian soil. And until now, we still can’t believe that we made down under. 2009 was truly a bitter sweet year.

Although not so much of a personal loss than a generational one, 2009 was the year we lost some really great minds and talents. From Francis Magalona who I got the chance of meeting one time; the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, who has inspired a lot of people in the realm of music; the Philippines’ first ever female president Corazon Aquino, who was the spark that eventually led to the EDSA revolution and people power; and closer to home, Kitchie’s grandfather who we all lovingly call Tatay, and who always saw the good in everyone, no matter what.

This was also the year that Ondoy showed everyone the power of nature, as well as the power of social media and the Filipino in trying to cope with such disasters. It made me realize how small we all are in the scope of things, and how we need to make the most of our lives together with our loved ones.

The Family

Timothy and Kitchie have been doing pretty good. Since Kitchie started working in the CBD, our little Padawan stays at a nearby child care centre that has a preschool within the same walls. Tim’s old man brings him to kindie on the way to work, and picks hip up on the way home. And once in a while, we manage to pick up Kitchie too.

Tim’s getting bigger and heavier every day. We also started noticing that he is developing an accent… and a British / Aussie one at that! One of his favorite tv shows is “Escape from Scorpion Island” which you can find more about here.

On top of his inclination towards singing, dancing, painting, drawing and other crafts, he has also developed a liking to looking through lenses, specifically his telescope. He still likes what normal kids like, but this latest development is something that we are seriously looking at introducing him to.

Technology-wise

This was also the year that I slowly started getting back to gaming as a means of getting inspiration for my development work as well as to relieve some of the tension I get from work. A lot of really good titles have come out for the Playstation 3. One of which was Batman: Arkham Asylum… a milestone for comic-based games as there was hardly any Batman game worthy of our time or energy. There is also the 5th installation of the Resident Evil series, and Metal Gear Solid 4… games that brought me back to my first-gen Playstation days.

Outside of gaming, I also started delving into more serious photography. With the help of Kitchie’s cousin Nicko and my trusty Nikon D90, I have been slowly trying out the various shots and effects you can do with a DSLR. It gets pretty confusing, but since I really love taking photos it wouldn’t matter as much to me, as long as I get to it eventually.

The plans

Everything is pretty much set, and we are all very excited to see everyone when we get back to the Philippines. See you all soon!
