In no particular order, these are the things that at the moment, I tend to have an inkling to, and would like to purchase for myself or for my family in the near future… unless something even better comes up. If this is the case, then I shall be revamping the following items. And if I do get a chance to get one of these, then of course I shall be crossing them off the list. If anyone would like to help then please feel free to pitch in ;)

Samsung M8

I have long been dreaming of owning a kick ass tv… it doesn’t really have to be huge as long as it supports the things I like the most. I previously wanted one of the Sony Bravia series, but practicality has gotten the better of me. Hence I am now lusting over the Samsung M8 40″ 1080p HD LCD TV. Too many acronyms for the normal joe, but seeing one of these in action, I can sum it up in just one word… WOW!

Sony Playstation 3

Everyone even remotely close to me knows that I am a bit of a gamer, and any list won’t be complete without a gaming console. Yes, the XBox 360 Elite has reached us down under, and yes there are more games for the Xbox than the Playstation 3… blah blah blah, but there are a few reasons why I am still opting for Sony’s entry, namely:

  1. Games - I have always been a fan of the Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, Resident Evil, Gran Turismo and Tekken series among others. And until these games are released in all available platforms, I am going with where they are available.
  2. Blu Ray - Again, I know Xbox has an HD DVD player (a separate purchase) but more and more I am seeing that the movies I like are being released in Blu Ray. The fact that more Blu Ray titles are out than HD DVD is a clear sign as well.
  3. Noise - There have been reports of a batch of PS3s emitting noise that is more than usual. Nonetheless, most of the owners out there are really happy about the noise cancellation technologies by Sony, especially while watching movies or during silent parts of a game.

Apple TV

Aside from being able to view our small but growing DVD collection, it would also be great if we could view our photos, listen to our music and watch movies from the computer in my office to our living room. Apple TV does just that, with the option of streaming or storing of content. There is one possible drawback to this… apparently, the Apple TV is a certified muffin heater for it emits an amazing amount of heat for such a small package. If anyone can correct me on this it would be deeply appreciated.

Apple Mac Pro and Cinema Display

I am currenly using a fairly decent Core 2 Duo system, but as with any other tech fanatic, the faster the system the better, and a bigger display for it does wonders. The Mac Pro has long been a stable system for professionals, and I have had a liking to them ever since they were still called Powermacs. No I may not go for the 8 core system since I can’t even think of anything that can use all 8 processors. But a quad core with all memory bays maxed out sounds great. Pair it up with a couple of 24″ or 30″ Cinema Displays, then its geek heaven.

Apple Macbook Pro

Having a powerful system isn’t really much if you can’t take it on the road. The 15″ Macbook Pro with top of the line specs will definitely be a nice compliment to the already face-melting Mac Pro, not to mention give the ability to show up on client meetings with the latest stuff on Web development.

Apple Aluminium Keyboard

Anyone who has the previous keyboard of Apple, whether wired or wireless knows how annoying it can get when the time comes when you need to clean the thing. With the new Aluminum Keyboards, there is no need to try to get into those nooks and crannies, or use compressed air. Typing is also breeze and not to mention extremely quiet. The main drawback though is unless its hooked up to one of the new Aluminium iMacs, you still don’t get any juice from any of the two USB 2.0 ports.

Wireless is still no go for me. I can’t be bothered replacing batteries while working, even if you can use rechargeable ones. I wonder when Apple will incorporate rechargeable lithium-ion batteries with their wireless keyboards…

Canon Pixma MX700

I have long been without a printer for personal use… 4 years now to be exact. Canon Pixmas currently have one of the best printouts available in the market with their picolitre printers. I was previously thinking of the Pixma MP600 but the absence of network or wireless printing capabilities has really been a deal breaker for me.

Reading The Advertiser a few days back, I chanced upon an article of 3 new Canon Pixma printers, but what caught my eye was the Pixma MX700… due to the fact that it does have ethernet connectivity and fax capabilities. I will have to wait for the week to come though, until they are available for me to check out. And at about A$300 a pop, its still something to consider.

Canon EOS 400D

Having a digital camera handy especially when with our son is essential. We wouldn’t want to miss those once-in-a-lifetime moments. But with the slim cameras availabe now, you can only go so far. Kitchie is thinking about getting back to photography, and the Canon EOS 400D would be a great DSLR for a budding photographer like her.

Time Capsule

One of the products Apple has introduced on Macworld 2008. This basically solves the issue of Mac users that are looking for wireless network attached storage and print server solutions. At A$429 for 500GB and A$699 for the 1TB version, a fairly reasonable price compared to other NAS solutions out there.

Apple iPhone 3G

iPhone 3G

The iPhone just got better with 3G and built-in GPS. I am still not convinced with the choice in colors, the measly 2 Megapixel camera and the max of 16GB, but this seems to be a very promising product. My previous concerns about poor battery life however seems to be just that. Previous As Apple promises to have improved battery performance. I will personally be in the sidelines to how this will develop.

Apple iPod Touch

Apple’s “The beat goes on” event was the reason why I hardly had any sleep yesterday. After my daily (or early morning) routine, I had to stay up so that I can be a part of it even if I was back here down under. I was previously lusting over the iPhone, but with yesterday’s hot new release of the iPod Touch, the choice is clear for me. I will definitely be going to our local Apple retailer to preorder. The question: 8GB or 16GB?
